Scottish Cyclist Julie Erskine visited Meldrum Academy as
part of the Champions in Schools programme. Julie took the pupils through
her cycling career to date which include a top 20 placing in the 2013 British
Road Race Championships in Glasgow, a race which featured Olympic Silver
Medalist and Commonwealth Gold Medalist Lizzie Armistead. Julie, who
recently graduated with a Doctorate in Medical Sciences and acted as Sports
Scientist for the GB Nordic Team in Sochi, then took the S1 pupils through a
range of strengthening exercises combined with an input on what a cyclist has in
their kit bag.
Julie will return soon for session two before the
final practical session in March where the pupils will be taking part in a
British Cycling coach led session in the school grounds.
